Statistics by The State of New Jersey Department of Human Services Division of Mental Health and Addiction Services shows that there were 76,509 treatment admissions in 2016. The report also shows that admission cases for alcohol, heroin, cocaine, and marijuana in Mercer County were 844 for alcoholism, 1,167 for heroin addiction, 234 for cocaine abuse, and 596 for marijuana dependency respectively.
Similarly, numerous drug busts in recent times have revealed that the drug scourge is more devastating than previously thought. For example, nj.com reported a drug bust in 2018, in which 51 pounds of methamphetamine and 20 pounds of heroin were confiscated by authorities that raided the Hamilton Marketplace shopping center in Mercer County.
After receiving a tip-off about a massive drug deal that was going on in the area, federal agents placed the entire area under surveillance and were able to swoop in on the culprits, bringing in numerous arrests.
In another incident reported by Patch, a New Jersey online news media website, 3 men were arrested on October 12, 2017, after they were found with $430,000 worth of drugs and cash. Their arrest was made following multiple search warrants executed in Hamilton and Trenton area. The investigation took about four weeks before the culprits were finally nailed.
